International Funding Sources USF World

By drawing funds from the payment system, the recipient agrees to the terms and conditions of an award. For each of the six thematic clusters, a Work programme, released every two years, sets out more detailed objectives. Multiple calls for proposals, each including detailed topics for research projects corresponding to these objectives, are released every year. The Canada-Brazil Awards-Joint Research Projects provide scholarships for exchanges of researchers and graduate students in support of reciprocal, team-based research projects between Canadian and Brazilian universities in key areas of mutual cooperation.

View this list of 30+ research funding agencies that support international collaboration. According to Professor Manfred Horvat, an advisor to the EU involved in international cooperation, if Europe wants to become more competitive, it “needs to cooperate with increasingly innovative countries such as China and Brazil”. This means that while the work of researchers from emerging economies is being recognized worldwide, funding for international cooperation, including for emerging countries, is increasingly becoming available. When NIH awards a grant or cooperative agreement, it is formalizing its partnership with the recipient to ensure compliance with federal laws, regulations and policies. Acceptance of a grant award from NIH carries with it the responsibility to be aware of and comply with the terms and conditions of the Notice of Award (NoA).

Although some international researchers receive NIDA support through a direct foreign grant, most international research is supported through a domestic grant with a foreign component, where a principal investigator from a U.S. institution works with a researcher from another country. We offer funding and support across all academic disciplines and industrial areas from the medical and biological sciences to astronomy, physics, chemistry and engineering, social sciences, economics, environmental sciences, and the arts and humanities. In the same way that there is no national trigonometric table or periodic table, science does not belong to any nation. It is rather an asset of humanity and should be used to improve everyone’s life. The outreach of science achieves deeper levels with globalization, which has made the world feel like a small village and has helped the fast dissemination of science and technology. The calls for proposals are open to researchers from Europe and beyond, ready to foster ground-breaking innovation for the benefit of citizens and society.

With the support of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), UNESCO-TWAS launched a new programme to strengthen the capacity of African countries lagging in science and technology. The programme is aimed at young scientists who are getting established in their country or are about to return home to an academic position. While having your research funded may determine your success, it is not always easy to find sources of funding. To help researchers in the search for project grants, we have made a list of more than 30 funding agencies that provide grants for international collaboration. If you are interested in learning more about funding from these organizations, we encourage you to check out their website and see the type of research projects that each organization funds.
